The truth is no matter how fabulous your product or service is, or how much you KNOW it can help others not everyone will like you or want to work with you.
Yes, it’s harsh, but also true, and it’s something we all need to learn early on in business.
My advice is to become impervious to those who neither like, understand or embrace what you offer. They’re not relevant to you and your business. Those who are relevant are those who NEED you and what you bring to the table.
It’s not about winning over, convincing, manipulating, or cajoling others into working with you. That’s not serving.
Rather it’s about being obsessed with working with those who need you, your offering and your delivery. Obsession is a good thing when applied to the pursuit of serving those you are meant to help.
Focused obsession is the key to success. Oh sure there are nicer ways of saying this, but obsessed is the word that nails it for me. The difference between someone who is successful, and someone who is “crushing it” doing the work they love is the latter takes bold or even bizarre risks. They stand out by going against the grain. They focus on those they are meant to serve. They are obsessed with the outcomes/service or transformation they deliver.
So be obsessed or at the very least, have a crush on your customers.
Nothing floats my boat more in business than helping others launch and soar. I met with a woman for lunch recently who I have had the privilege of working with for a few years. We discussed the first time we met and how no one had believed in her and her product. I did. I knew what was needed to launch her. We created an action plan. She did the work, and the results were amazing! Seeing her succeed was validation that when we focus on helping those we’re meant to serve, great things can happen.
Be committed to delivering the best you have to those who need you. Embrace and elevate those who you are intended to serve.
And go ahead and be impervious to those you are not intended to work with – they weren’t yours in the first place.
Be all in – don’t dabble or settle.
