We are the sum of the five people we spend the most time with (are you scared?) – and the five most memorable moments, desires, dreams and accomplishments we hold dear with so much more.
When was the last time you took stock of where you are? Here’s a little something to consider: it’s never too late to live the life you dream. I started later than most in making my dreams a reality. The great thing was I had the wisdom, the tough part was I wasn’t 20 anymore. And being in the second half of life, starting something new was daunting because I knew what it would take to go from a dream to becoming a gold standard.
On the path to achieving our dreams, knowledge can get in the way and derail us as surely as a lack of skill set.
Sometimes we just have to stand up and say YES! Yes, to just doing what needs doing! That is exactly what I did November 12, 2013. I stood up and said YES!
There I was standing in the lobby of 9 Channel Nine Court, Toronto ON. Home of CTV, Canada AM and many more news programs. I arrived ready and willing to share the story. For as long as I can remember I have watched Canada AM, preferring to get an overview of our country and then would watch local news.
As I walked in without any angst onto the Canada Am set that morning, I could have been scared to death. This was national television, and being someone who had been in hiding for 35+ years under a veil of darkness, sadness and fear I was surprisingly comfortable. I walked out and took my place. Along the way a couple of the anchors congratulated me for my courage and my book launch. I have to tell you it was REALLLLLLY cool.
The interview was just over four minutes, and if you know anything about national television segments you know that is LONG! My primary goal was to make sure that I, Susan, and all the others had a voice, that the silence and the veil were lifted once and for all. My memoir, Frock Off: Living Undisguised, debuted on national television that day and my life took a new course. This was the day I declared myself FREE. That freedom would replace fear and doubt!
Of course then the real work began. I needed to find and build my tribe, my people – other change agents. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to be around those who I had journeyed with – no, not at all, I simply needed to add people who would keep me on my toes, who would challenge me and call me out if need be. And there were times it was necessary. I needed to create five new memorable moments in my life that were tied directly to this new purpose, mission, and passion.
November 12th, 2013 was a critical intersection in my life. Some call it a turning point, I called it a Frock-alicious moment when I decided that my second half of life was going to be MUCH bigger, happier, and free of fear, sadness and angst. So began the process.
It all sounds so romantic and unfettered – to live the life you dream. It’s not the case at all. That said, it is so worth it.
I had to:
- Develop new habits and behaviors – Transparency became a word I adopted as mine.
- Surround myself with like-minded people who were purpose and mission driven.
- Immerse myself in my new life – It meant being vulnerable.
I have long known that the law of attraction only works if there is action. Without action there can be nopositive attraction.
So I got down to it and moved from being the best kept secret to a woman on a mission in life and business.
Along the way…
- I had doubts – It was hard work. So I invested in me and what I needed to learn.
- I had to dig deep – It took grit and focus with the end in mind. So invested more time and money.
- I stumbled, but I got back up – So again I invested. I attended conferences and dug in deeper.
The point is that I stayed the course. I choose, and continue to choose, to invest in my dreams and serve those who are ready to STOP BEING the Best Kept Secret in life and business, and are ready to be the Gold Standard.
When we surround ourselves with those who have been there, we lift each other up and we all win! It’s your time and your turn!
So if you’re ready to move from secret to standard join us at one of our upcoming events.
